How dataset.replay() treats a foreign write: a Field value that changed after the step recorded
it, through a sync or any other commit.

false (the default) keeps the current value. The replay then writes none of that entry's Field
rows, so the step never splits a pair such as start/end. true writes the step's value over
it, last write wins.
